What Are AI Employees?

Learn what AI Employees are, how they differ from standard workspace agents, and how they fit into your organization in PropellerDeck.

What Are AI Employees?

AI Employees are custom AI agents built specifically for your organization. Unlike the standard workspace agents that every PropellerDeck user gets by default, AI Employees are purpose-built to fill a defined role — whether that is a specialized research analyst, a customer support responder, a code reviewer, or any other function your team needs.

How AI Employees Differ from Workspace Agents

Your default workspace agent (StandardChat) is a general-purpose assistant scoped to your individual workspace. AI Employees work differently in several important ways:

  • Organization-wide — AI Employees are available across your entire organization, not just a single workspace.
  • Purpose-built — each AI Employee is configured with a specific role, toolset, and knowledge base tailored to your use case.
  • Assigned by architects — AI Employees are designed and delivered by PropellerDeck architects who work with your request to build the right configuration.
  • Shared resources — team members across your organization can interact with and assign tasks to AI Employees just as they would a human colleague.

Who Creates AI Employees?

You cannot create AI Employees yourself from within a workspace. Instead, you submit a request through your Organization Dashboard and a PropellerDeck architect reviews it, builds the agent, and delivers it to your organization. This ensures each AI Employee is properly configured with the right tools, knowledge, and behavior for your specific needs.
